Export for your accountant In plain English

Everyone claims something back. Are you claiming it all?

You only get back what you can prove. Farul keeps your receipts and CIS payslips in one place all year, so at the end you know exactly what you are owed instead of guessing. On a normal CIS income, every £100 you can prove is about £26 back. Farul is made for working for yourself, with or without CIS, and for limited companies.

£
Everything you invoiced or were paid, before any costs.
£
Everything you spent on work: tools, travel, materials, phone, and what you pay your own subcontractors.
What can I claim? ▾
Common costs: tools and equipment · travel and fuel for work · materials · part of your phone and internet · protective clothing · work insurance · accountant's fees. A rough total is fine here, it does not have to be exact. If you pay subcontractors, put the gross, which is what you owed them before you held any CIS back, not just what landed in their bank.
£
We have worked out 20% of your income for you. If you know the exact amount from your CIS statements, change it. Only what your contractors took off you. If you pay subcontractors and hold CIS back from them, that is their tax and not yours, so it does not go here.

A million people missed the deadline. Every one of them was fined £100 the next morning. HMRC, 31 January 2026

The first day you are lateeven if you owe nothing£100
After 3 months£10 a day, up to £900£900
At 6 monthsor 5% of the tax owed, if that is more£300
At 12 monthsor 5% of the tax owed, if that is more£300

A year late: from £1,600. If you also owe tax, interest and separate penalties are added on top.

The £100 fine is for filing late, even if you owe nothing. Farul keeps every deadline in one place and emails you 30 days, 7 days and one day before each one.

These are the penalties under the current system, the one that applies to most people today. If you come into Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, a different system applies, built on points: you get a point for every late report, and at 4 points HMRC charges you £200. MTD arrives in stages as the threshold drops: over £50,000 of income from April 2026, over £30,000 from April 2027, over £20,000 from April 2028.
